Napoli Napoli di lava, porcellana e musica, it is not an exhibition like the many you have already seen. Halfway between the staging of an opera and a historical tale, it could have been called ... Once upon a time Napolio LaStoria is an Opera or even The wedding of music and porcelain. It is in fact a party, a fable that celebrates the unity of the arts and tells the adventures of the opera heroes of the Teatro di San Carlo who, tired of the fictional stories of opera librettos, flee the theater to meet the true story in Capodimonte. The characters of The Chinese Idol and Paisiello's Avenged Pulcinella, those of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Jommelli's Demofoonte and many others, all in their stage costumes, encounter a world made of porcelain, portraits and royal furniture from the residences Bourbon churches of Portici and Carditello, from Capodimonte and from the Royal Palace; in a word, the great decorative art of the Manufactures commissioned by Charles of Bourbon. Porcelains, biscuits, earthenware services from the Royal manufacture of Naples, from the Del Vecchio or Giustiniani workshops, the bronzes from the Righetti, Semper or Chiurazzi foundries, a whole world inspired by the great event of the century from which the birth of volcanology and mineralogy, ornithology and the great cataloging of the nature of the Enlightenment: the discovery of the ancient world of Pompeii and Herculaneum. 18th century Naples is the world capital of music. The musicians of the Teatro di San Carlo, trained in the famous music conservatories of the city, are in demand by the European courts of Saint Petersburg, Paris, London and Vienna. For the exhibition, the famous Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella - the last historical conservatory in the world - will lend the fortepianos of Paisiello and Cimarosa, gifts from the great Catherine of Russia and the exceptional ancient harp, the only one in existence, by Stradivari. Naples was the third largest city in Europe in the 18th century with London and Paris. Maria Carolina of Habsburg, Marie Antoinette's sister, is considered the eye and hand of Vienna in Naples. His favorite, Lady Hamilton, wife of the English ambassador, mistress of Admiral Nelson, serves the interests of London. King Ferdinand IV soon becomes a puppet in the hands of his wife.
The French Revolution looms in Paris, threatening the absolute power of all European monarchies. Bonaparte's troops invade Naples and support the young Neapolitan Republic. The Bourbons, from their Palermo exile, await the fall of the republican government. During the Restoration, the repression was bloody and the executions of members of the republican government and sympathizers continued for decades, wiping out the progressive aristocracy and the Neapolitan intelligentsia for decades. The French Republic becomes a military empire. Giuseppe Bonaparte, brother of Napoleon, leaves Naples for the throne of Spain and Marshal Gioacchino Murat, husband of the Emperor's sister, becomes King of Naples.
